About the centre

Tshiya District Teacher Development Centre (DTDC) is situated at Phuthaditjhaba (Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality) in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District. The centre is the hub of local support for continuing professional development of teachers.

Tshiya DTDC's primary focus is to address teacher development needs and provide training venues and facilities. It comprises of an academic team and support team who work collaboratively for enhancement of teaching and learning in the district.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of programs and services to improve quality of teaching and learning in the district. We collaborate with Curriculum, Governance and Management, Inclusive Education and other sections within the broader spectrum of educational space to enhance classroom instruction and create innovative pedagogy.

The centre is servicing all 315 schools in the district depending on the identified needs. There are however 78 schools which are within the radius of the centre, the radius of the furthest is 75km.

Services rendered:

Teacher development activities - school based and office based:

  • Coordinate and support all curriculum teacher development activities.
  • Sign-up and orientation of teachers on CPTD Management system.
  • Provide teacher development programs on ICT, Information skills and utilization of resources in the classroom.
  • Library support at the centre and at school level.
  • Create awareness around educational sites where teachers can access shared resources.

Learner development activities:

  • Career Guidance activities; Role Modelling sessions; National Science Week and so on.
  • Grade 12 extra classes (CAPS)
  • Grade 12 finishing (Old syllabus)
  • Provide ICT skills to youth and learners.
  • Provide venues and facilities for training, meetings and workshops.

Resources:

  • Provide equipment and resources to schools (Digital content- Mindset; IBP; Breadbin kiosk; etc.
  • Provide mobile bus and site based library services to eighty (80) schools in the district. 
  • Provide mobile computer bus services to nine (9) previously disadvantaged schools in the district.
  • Stable, fast and reliable Internet access to teachers; both school based office based as well as to learners

Community:

  • Outdoor facilities for sport.
  • Due to the abundance of venues available at the centre, we also provide venues to secondary clients, e.g other departments, NGO and CBOs (Community Based Organisations)
  • Issue newsletter quarterly.

 

Opening hours

 Monday to Friday from 7:30 - 16:00 

Bookings: Clients are required to book the venue (s) well in advance. Opening after hours and during weekends is per prior arrangements.
