laptop-online-learning slide size11 October 2017 – From Monday 23 October over 800 000 candidates will be writing the National Senior Certificate examinations in over 7 000 centres nationwide.

The full schedule of exams as published by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) can be downloaded here (PDF 48 KB).

 To support the learners with their preparations the Digital Classroom has compiled below guide of online resources. Should you know of any resources, tips and tricks to help the learners succeed, please email them to or contact us via Facebook or on Twitter so we can include them on this page.


Zero-rated online resources

Zero-rated means that no data charges apply for Vodacom users, all content and resources on the websites can be browsed and downloaded for free. Please note that for YouTube videos that are accessed through the Digital Classroom or other zero-rated educational websites normal data-charges apply.


Department of Basic Education (zero-rated)
On the Department of Basic Education website you can find all relevant information about NSC 2017 and the provincial contact details. The DBE also offers a number of tips for exam preparations. One important tip is to work through as many past examinations as you can.

SiyavulaSiyavula (zero-rated)
Siyavula offers technology-powered learning for success in Maths and Science where you can track your progress and achieve your goals with the practice service. Textbooks are brought to life with videos and simulations.

On 1 October 2017 Siyavula kicked off their #1MillionsMaths Challenge South African learners to sign up and complete 1 million maths questions during October in preparations for the exams. As a bonus Gr 12 learners who register will get access to online self-marking exam questions for Paper 1 and Paper 2. You can follow the progress of the #1MillionsMaths Challenge via Twitter.


Vodacom E-School (zero-rated)
Vodacom E-School offers interactive digital content to learn, revise and track your progress in all Grade 12 subjects.

2Enable offers (daily) online maths and science lessons for grades 10-12. Please follow this link and register on the 2Enable platform. You can keep updated on the lesson programme via Facebook and Twitter.


On airCAPS Radio
This new online education radio station broadcasts a Second Chance Matric Programme every weekday morning from 9h00 – 10h00 and keeps everyone in the education sector informed of the latest developments. During the NSC exams they also offer extra revision lessons.

DBE community radio broadcasts
The DBE, through the Second Chance Matric Support Programme, is providing radio broadcast lessons to all learners, most especially those writing the 2017 NSC Supplementary examinations. The radio lessons will be broadcast in 27 community radio stations, ensuring that learners residing in rural areas also have access.

The radio lessons, which will take place during the same period as the 2017 NSC Supplementary examinations, will be conducted by qualified teachers and supported by an hour-long Facebook Q&A session at the end of each lesson. The same teachers who will be conducting the lessons will also facilitate the Facebook Q&A sessions.

Geleza Nathi
SABC1’s Geleza Nathi delivers core curriculum concepts across six subjects to grade 10 – 12 learners and gets them equipped with knowledge to ace their exams at the end of the year.
You can follow the Geleza Nathi broadcasts on weekdays between 05h00 and 06h00 with repeats between 23h00 and 24h00. Geleza Nathi also has a very active Facebook-page.


Nolwazi is an independent non-profit organisation which offers Open Education Resources (OER), including over 3 000 resources for Grade 12. Open Educational Resources (OERs) are educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them.


Western Cape Education Department
Matric candidates can view a wide range of matric revision resources on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) website. The page provide guidance and tips to tackle specific questions in the exams.
