About the centre

Kediemetse EDSC was established in 2008 and is based in Khuma Township, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District in the North West Province.

The Centre provides services to the 26 schools of the Meepong Circuit.

Vision
To provide a platform for the delivery of quality education and other socio-economic programmes, services and resources to schools and their communities.

Objectives

  • Improve communication and the distribution of information and resources to and from schools.
  • Deliver quality education programmes to school communities.
  • Support the socio-economic development of communities around the schools.

Users of the Centre are teachers, learners, School Management Teams (SMTs), School Governing Bodies (SGBs), parents, youths and communities around schools.

 

Core Services Offered

Computer literacy and electronic education

  • IT literacy for teachers, learners, school managers and administrators, as well as for youth and adults around centres
  • Access to E-mail, internet and E-learning programmes for members of school community
  • Using connectivity to improve communication between the Department and its schools.

Teachers professional development and support

  • Providing comprehensive in-service training programmes that support educator professional development;
  • Making resources and related support available to educators;
  • Providing educators with skills in the development of learning support materials.
  • Providing information on accredited and non-accredited programmes for educators in practice;
  • Serving as remote campuses for the University of North West and other universities that offer accredited pre- and in-service courses for teachers.

Promote adult and youth literacy and skills development

  • Making Education Development and Support Centres (EDSCs) a training ground for adults and out-of-school youth in skills that will improve their socio-economic status.
  • Providing opportunities for learner support.
  • Offering Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) programmes.

Other services provided by the Centre

  • Provide venues for training, workshops and study
  • Provide training venues for regional, circuit and cluster workshops.
  • Serve as study centres for both pre-service and in-service educators and also support the provision of distance learning programmes for tertiary institutions.
  • Provide access to and training in ICT, e-learning, e-mail and Internet connectivity as well as reprographic facilities.
  • Centre for distribution of teaching and learning support materials, stationery, supplementary reading materials, science kits etc to schools.
  • Conduct programmes aimed at job creation and poverty alleviation.
