2ndChanceDBEPosterThe aim of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) is to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC). By supporting these learners DBE meets the goals of the NDP and the sector and increases learner retention.

The SCMP allows learners to meet the requirements of the NSC or SC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate, increases learner retention as well as computer skills, job opportunities and learners are able to access bursary opportunities for further studies. 

 

The SCMP is open to:

  • Progressed Learners: Learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all 6 subjects (multiple options) and will write the examinations for the outstanding subjects in June.
  • Senior Certificate (amended) Examination Candidates: Learners registered to write the Senior Certificate (amended) examinations in June. 
  • NSC Examinations Part-time candidates: Learners who attempted the NSC examinations post 2015 and will write the examinations in November. Registration for the 2019 NSC exams will open in the first week of January and close on 15 March 2019.

  

The SCMP provides these learners with:

  • Face-2-face classes
  • Digital online/offline programme
  • Television/Radio broadcasts
  • Mulitmedia platforms
  • Centres & venues

Resources

On the DBE SCMP website you will find relevant resources per subject, these resources include digital textbooks, multimedia resources including Internet, TV and radio broadcasts and previous exam papers resources.

Most of these resources can also be found here. To support the Second Chance Matric learners with their exam preparations even more the Digital Classroom offers tips & tricks for the exams using the lessons, videos and assessments on Vodacom E-School. The highlighted topics per exam paper are selected based on study of previous exams from 2015, 2016 and 2017. 

 

Centres & venues

In every province you will find designated SCMP venues where you'll be able to get access to all available resources, face-to-face classes and personal support from the designated SCMP centre managers. Click here to download the overview of all these SCMP centres.
