About the centre

The Vodacom centre is situated within the district office in Beyer’s Naude Building at number 9 Murray street, Graaff Reinet town centre.

The building is newly build and donated by the Department of Public Works. The Vodacom ICT Centre, ICTs equipments and furniture was donated to the Department of Education by Vodacom Foundation.

It started operating from January 2015. The district office is in Graaff Reinet which is the root of Karoo. Our district is fully operational and operates five days a week. The district serves four municipal areas, that is, Blue Crane Municipality, Kamdeboo Municipality, IKwezi Municipality and Baviaans Municipality. There are 4 circuits. The district has 86 schools including 16 FET schools and 70 GET schools. 

Our Vision
We aim at Teachers Professional Development and empowerment to achieve the 21st Century Skills in order to implement ICT integration in Teaching, Learning and Assessment for improved learner performance. We also seek to advance access to education by all community members and young people in order to be expose to the advances in technologies for better lives.

Our Mission

  • To address diverse learning styles to improve academic achievement in all learning areas.
  • To improve the professionalism, pedagogical skills, subject knowledge and content gap, expose educators to educational apps and promote ICT literacy levels of educators in ICT through practical learning and teaching practices.
  • To advocate for increased access by learners and educators to a wide range of ICT media and ICT integration to learning and teaching.
  • To be a resourceful centre for content gap mitigation by providing relevant and current educational software that contains updated subject trends and knowledge.
  • To improve district performance in all subject using ICTs.
  • To improve administration at our schools by implementing School Administration management Systems (SA SAMS) effectively.

The Centre offers the following programmes:

  • End user computing for teachers in Partnership with SchoolNetSA.
  • Training teachers , SMT, and community on Introduction of Basic computer literacy.
  • Expose all Educators to the Vodacom Digital Classroom and eSchool, which are zero rated websites.
  • Microsoft Partners in Learning Teacher Professional Development and ICT Management by School Principals.
  • Train Subject Advisors, teachers on how to integrate ICTs in Teaching and Learning on subject specific enhances teaching and learning and for improved learner performance.
  • Training educators on using Internet and NDBE educational portal like Thutong portal, Digital classroom and other relevant educational websites.
  • Training Circuit Managers, Curriculum Personnel and Administrators on ICT integration and SASAMS.
  • Teachers accessing Vodacom e-Content , train teachers on how to download Mindset Learn video content for all grades in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting and other subjects from Vodacom Digital Classroom and You-Tube and distribute these with the assistance of Subject Advisors to schools.
