About the centre

Amajuba Education Centre opened its doors in May 2006 using the building of Majuba TVET College CPD Campus in Madadeni. Then it only consisted of a board room and two offices. The centre relocated to its new premises in August 2011.

Number of schools that have access to the centre: All 261 schools in the district.

The centre comprises of three storeys over two blocks with 61 rooms including 12 offices, 22 dormitories and 3 flats for residents.

Services offered:

  • ICT – I-Box, Plato (Simulated & Animated Lessons), Interactive Whiteboard Board training General Computer Practice (GCP) Accredited
  • Library service and Mobile Library (ML)
  • Science Laboratory (Not staffed)
  • Support for matric intervention – ICT Devices (E-learning)
  • Support for literacy and Numeracy – Library/ Mobile Library Service and hosting District Reading & Writing Committee comprised of Curriculum Support Services and TLS (GET) Partnership
  • Providing facilities for Teacher Professional Development - Teacher Development/ TLS (FET & GET) SASAMS etc.
  • Providing facilities for Community Development projects, meetings and functions and hosting Heritage Functions uNomkhubulwane and Ukweshwama and uDoloqina
  • Youth Desk for Youth Development: Cultural activities and Career Guidance & CAO
  • Book Processing Centre for School Library Development Programme (SLDP)
  • Provide venues and support for sister departments: DOSR, DSD, DED, DOT, DOH and Amajuba District & Newcastle Municipality
  • Wellness programme: Gym & Aerobics in house, centre soccer team fully kitted participate in league for the Department of Sport & Recreation (DOSR) Staff participation in Annual Memel Walk (50 km) and other local Walking events and Aerobic Marathon 
  • Initiatives to raise funds
    1. Provide accommodation: Staff, relocating dept officials, Nursing College students
    2. Provide catering service for District high profile meetings, outside organisations and sister departments
    3. Renting out 10 m scaffolding
    4. Reprographic services (photocopying, binding, laminating and CV & general typing)
    5. Provide office space & accommodation to Sukuma security & Zimeleni Nursing College and church conferences. 


Opening hours

Monday to Friday from 08h00 - 16.h00 (Also open during lunch hour)
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed unless booking arrangements have been made
