About the centre

The Lamontville Education Centre is a buzzing education centre and one of the most recognised in the Umlazi education district.

The Centre is located in the historical township of Lamontville in the south of Durban. This township housed political activists like Rev. M. Xundu, Dorothy Nyembe, Bheki Cele (the former mkhuzi wamaphiyisa), Mnu. Msizi Dube. The latter’s death in the 1976 riots left the community of Lamontville in a rage, however today Education celebrates his courageous life with the Lamontville Education Centre neighbouring school Msizi Dube Primary School.

Lamontville is also known in South African soccer by the two legends Mato and Rocky Madlala who are the founders of Lamontville Golden Arrows. The stories of the rich history of this township are endless!

Lamontville Education Centre is a free standing education centre that services Umlazi District schools, Lamontville community structures as well as the Department of Education at large and other sister governmental departments.

The Education Centre boasts four computer labs including a fully furnished lab donated by SAPREF and the newly installed Vodacom Centre with Vodacom internet /Wi-Fi connectivity. Each of these computer labs can accommodate 25 to 40 people and are utilized by subject advisors, educators and learners, the Department of Education officials as well as community members.

In the computer labs learners and educators search and access information on the Internet, subject advisors train educators on e-learning and FET Maths and Science educators download Mindset content.

Teachers are enabled to use ICT platforms to strengthen teaching and learning. Community members and out of school youth receive computer literacy classes.

The Centre also has a board room and 15 workshop rooms in which it facilitates its visitors with a variety of programmes.
