About the centre

Manguzi Education Centre is situated at KwaNgwanase, it is a deep rural area which is next to the Mozambique border at Kosi Bay.

Manguzi Education Centre is a standalone building with blocks and roof tile. It was founded by the KwaZulu Natal Department of Education (KZNDOE) and Media in Education Trust (MIET) in partnership with a project of the Royal Netherland Embassy after the identification of the community need.

The Education Centre serves different types of people or community members with schools as its priority. It serves school communities including educators, principals, subject advisors, circuit managers, DoE officials and also learners form different schools.
It is in a diverse community of unemployed, uneducated and underdeveloped members, which puts pressure on and influences to the kind of delivery the centre must provide.

Initially the overall goal was the establishment of education centres that serves as decentralised nodes for the delivery of quality education support services and other socio-economic programmes, services and resources to schools and other communities, but the new dispensation orders it to be more teacher development centred.

The centre serves 89 schools 22 high schools and 67 primary schools within four circuits.
