ICT in_the_Classroom_260The Schoolnet SA ICT in the Classroom conference will take place from 2-4 July in Bloemfontein22 May 2013 - The SchoolNet SA ICT in the Classroom Conference for educators will take place in Bloemfontein from 2-4 July. Teachers are invited to submit speaker proposals to share their success stories on using ICT in the classroom by 29 May.

Presenters and programme

The Deputy Minister of Education, Enver Surty, will give the opening address and SchoolNet has invited inspirational keynote speakers from the UK and the US. The Director for Imagine Education, Baldev Singh, will be speaking about trends in technology and their impact in the classroom, connecting classrooms and 21st century learning design through a technology lens. Naomi Harm is a well-known education consultant who runs The Innovative Educator blog and the Digital Buzz Radio Show. She will be speaking about global classroom collaboration, learning with tablets and designing blended learning for the classroom. Frédéric Kastner, Programme Manager at The Virtual School, will present a global overview of digital subject content developments. He will also show teachers how to make educational videos.

In addition, SchoolNet invites teachers to submit presentation proposals to share their success stories on using ICT in the classroom. The presentation should cover one or more of the themes of the conference which include:

  • Connecting classrooms - learning activities that use technology to connect classrooms beyond the school's boundaries.
  • Learning with tablets - learning activities that are unique to the use of tablets in and beyond the classroom.
  • Learning with mobile phones - learning activities that are unique to the use of mobile phones in and beyond the classroom.
  • Innovative teaching - any teaching with technology that is innovative, especially entrants to the current and past the Microsoft Innovative Education Forum are invited.
  • ICT leadership in the school – general examples of successful leadership of ICT integration activities in school
  • Curriculum delivery through digital content - how the inclusion of digital content in the curriculum has enhanced teaching and student learning
Teachers' contributions could be interactive presentations, forum sessions, hands-on workshops and computer-room sessions and last 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours. Speaker proposals can be completed here and should be submitted by 29 May. 


To register for this conference this form needs to be completed. The conference fee is R850. Presenters of 1 hour sessions or longer will not have to pay the conference fee. Presenters of half hour sessions will receive a 50% discount on the conference fee. In case of a group presentation, only one member of the group will be exempt from the conference fee.

Teachers who apply as Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for the Global Partners in Learning Forum 2014 are also eligible to attend the ICT in the Classroom for free. Schoolnet will select fifteen teachers from the applications received before 3 June.
