About the centre

The Siyabuswa District Teacher Development Centre (DTDC) is situated on the new Teacher Campus of the University of Mpumalanga (former Ndebele College) in Siyabuswa.

It is part of the Nkangala District and shares offices with the UJ staff in a modern newly build facility. The DTDC also has a hall for training large groups of teachers, a boardroom for formal meetings and a workroom to accommodate small groups, this facility is equipped with a data projector and a computer.

The Siyabuswa DTDC boasts an interactive ICT Resource Centre, a career guidance centre and a well-equipped science laboratory. These facilities are used by educators, learners, office officials, out of school youth and the community to receive training that will assist and equip them to become skilled professionals in their fields.

The three training centres are managed by the following facilitators:

Guidance career centre - Mr. Thage
Plans for this centre are to develop the learners’ career awareness, assessing their personalities and to provide guidance and counselling with future career choices.

Science centre - Mr. MB Mahlangu
The purpose of this centre is to ensure that science is accessible to the local schools and community through outreach programmes and the training of educators teaching the subject

CentreICT Resource Centre - Ms. IB Sindane
The Vodacom Information & Communication Technology (ICT) centre is situated in a big room and equipped with 30 laptops, 1 printer, 1 projector, white board, E-beam, server room and internet connectivity, so that educators, learners, out of school youth, office officials and community can access the internet and use the ICT resources. The centre has also 6 tablets for the e-library where books can be read electronically.

The training programme in the ICT Resource centre includes:

  • Basic computer literacy
  • Computer software
  • Computer hardware
  • Microsoft Partners in Learning (Ms Word, Ms Excel and Ms PowerPoint)
  • Use of the Internet (emails, websites, and research of information and do research)
  • Use of tablets and
  • How to access the e-Library on the tablets.
